ATM Tampering Leads to Identity Theft

According to KRDO in Colorado a “skimming device” was found in a Colorado ATM. The “skimming device” is used to read the magnetic strip on credit and debit cards. Once the information has been obtained the perpetrators have all the information they need to steal someone’s identity.

The most popular way for criminals to use the machines is to make counterfeit cards and steal account information.

Once the police retrieved the machine, they sent it to the Secret Service for investigation.

Protecting Yourself From Auto Identity Theft

KHOU in Houston, Texas is reporting that there is a new threat to Texans, vehicle identity theft. The threat comes from individuals who sell their automobiles, but fail to remove their license plates.

Tom Gilmore is one such individual. He sold his car, but failed to remove his license plat. His mailbox was soon inundated with parking tickets and fines.

According to the story, a spokesman from Texas Department of Transportation said that, “They can do anything with that vehicle and its going to trace back to you. You may have sold it years ago, but our records show you are still the title holder.”

This should raise alarm for people, since this means that any time a crime is committed with your car, the police will respond to your home.
